ABOUT THIS PROJECT

I am an ally to the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and this project grew out of love and necessity. As a mother to a transgender youth, I embarked on a steep learning curve about how to best support a transgender youth socially, emotionally and medically. While accessing healthcare and support for our family, I learned that many healthcare professionals, including myself, were regrettably ignorant of transgender healthcare. I learned that this marginalized community needs allies in order to be well and to buffer them against the trauma they unfortunately often experience.

I also learned that there is a 93% reduction in the risk of suicide with strong family support. Love matters. A lot.

Realizing that resources for parents and professionals were difficult to locate and found at various sources, I decided to gather what I felt to be the best information and place it here for busy healthcare professionals to access.

I would like to thank my transgender youth for sharing their authentic self with our family in an act of incredible bravery, self-awareness and self-love. I would like to thank all of the transgender folks and their families who have walked this path before us for showing us the way and for making things better along their way. I would also like to thank pharmacist Dr. Dylan Moulton for his time to enlighten me on how to create an inclusive pharmacy and for his advocacy for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

I hope you take the time to gather or expand your knowledge about transgender, gender diverse and gender fluid people and the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment will empower 2SLGBTQ+ folks and their families. Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to assist these marginalized and under-served communities with their healthcare needs.
