UNIQUE CHALLENGES OF THE 2SLGBTQ+ and TRANSGENDER POPULATION

Members of the 2SLGBTQ+ population continue to face long-standing barriers to complete freedom, safety and equity in society. 2SLGBTQ+ persons experience stigma, discrimination, rejection, violence, trauma and prejudice.

2SLGBTQ+ individuals, including both youth and adults, can face additional challenges, including homelessness, joblessness and lack of access to medical care. This results in the added burden of minority stress. Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to act as allies to this population and to provide positive and affirming healthcare services.

Contrastingly, mistreatment during pharmacy interactions, whether through ignorance or malice, continues the cycle of trauma that marginalized individuals endure daily.

Please use the references below to educate yourself on the many challenges that impact this marginalized group, including housing, work, healthcare, physical safety and mental health.
